DEAD MAN WALKING

I never knew where I was goin’ to
I only knew I couldn’t stay where I had been
I never thought that peace of mind was meant for the likes of me
I only knew I hated all that I had beenThere was a dead man walkin’ in my skin
A dead man walkin’ to the gallows pole of sin

I never knew what I was runnin’ from
I just kept runnin’ so I wouldn’t feel so lost,
I never stopped, I never wondered what it all would cost
I just kept runnin’ and I ran until it all was lost

There was a dead man walkin’ in my skin
A dead man walkin’ to the gallows pole of sin

I finally got where I was goin’ to
That destination wasn’t all that it had seemed
Lookin’ back now at all the places I have been
I thank the Lord I got the chance to trade it in

To have Jesus walkin’ in my skin
Jesus walkin’ with my spirit deep within
